Canary Islands

This is assumed that the Canary Islands were named after canary birds, but in reality, the Canary Islands are named after dogs, not birds. Island is off the coast of northwestern Africa, actually, the archipelago is actually part of Spain.

In Spanish, the area’s name is Islas Canarias, which is rugged volcanic isles known for black and white sand beaches. Islas Canarias comes from the Latin phrase Canaria Insulae for “island of dogs.”

Island is sometimes dominated by snowy active volcano Mt. Teide, which has an astronomical observatory and is part of Teide National Park
